Conor McGregor opened as a betting favorite sizable in their welterweight showdown recently announced against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 on March 5.
MacGregor (19-2) has been called one of the minus-280 favorite over Diaz, who took the fight on 11 days in advance. Diaz returns to plus-220. The 170-pound bout will headline UFC 196 in Las Vegas.
opening lines were established by Nick Kalikas of MMAOddsBreaker.com. McGregor, featherweight champion of UFC, was originally supposed to challenge lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (25-7).
Before the fight was removed, McGregor was a minus-165 favorite for dos Anjos, according to the Superbook Westgate in Las Vegas.
"With Nate Diaz intervene in the short term to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 196, which is potentially an even more exciting fight in terms of fan interest," Kalikas ESPN.com. "Stylistically, the best attribute Diaz in this fight is his elite jiu-jitsu, but that does not mean we're going to see him, because he has a great way to take the fight to the ground.
"Diaz has held its own against the best light front and Donald Cerrone and Michael Johnson. That said, surprising accuracy Conor McGregor, combined with its power, has enabled it to back up all the arrogant claims he has done so far and their confidence is at its all time. "
McGregor, 27, has never fought at welterweight. Diaz has a 2-2 record in the weight class, with four fights coming in the UFC.
