Saudi Arabia judges 32 members of an alleged spy ring working for Iran

Prosecutors accused of gathering information about places and vital installations in Saudi Arabia, and delivering that data to the Iranian secret services.

During this week, the accused shall be summoned to receive indictments and to prepare his defense.

In 2013, the authorities in Saudi Arabia and arrested an alleged spy ring working for the Iranians services

The Criminal Court in Riyadh has filed a lawsuit against 32 people accused of belonging to an alleged espionage work for Iran. The defendants are Saudi, Iranian and Afghan nationalities, reports EFE.

During this week, the accused shall be summoned to receive indictments and to prepare his defense.

A network operating at least since 2013

In March 2013, Saudi authorities arrested 18 people, according to research, belonging to the same network as the current detainees. In May of the same year, the Saudi Interior Ministry reported that its security forces had dismantled another network that allegedly spying for Iran and consisted of ten people, including eight Saudis, Lebanese and Turkish.

Tensions between the Saudi government and Iran increased earlier this year, after the execution of an important Shiite cleric, Nimr Baqir al Nimr in Saudi Arabia, which in turn caused the assault two Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran.
