Texas Senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz won Saturday mogul Donald Trump in the caucuses (popular assemblies) Republicans in Kansas (USA), according to projections carried out by the mainstream media.

With 80% of votes counted, Cruz accumulated 50.8% of the vote, compared to 24.3% of Trump and 14.8% of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, in this state of the American West, where they are at play 40 delegates to elect in July the party's presidential candidate.

This is the fifth victory in the Republican primary for Cruz, who also won last month in Iowa and Tuesday in Texas, Oklahoma and Alaska.

"God Bless Kansas," Cruz said shortly after learning the results at a rally in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, a state which held its Republican primary next Tuesday.

"That scream you hear the howl coming from Washington, is an absolute terror at what we, the people, are doing together," said Cuban-born senator, away from the political apparatus of the party for his ultraconservative message.

"What has to happen now is that there are fewer candidates," he said in a clear reference to the other two Republicans who aspire to become the alternative to Trump: Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Governor of Ohio John Kasich.

In Kansas, about a third of the population are evangelical Christians, which may have favored Cruz, who usually benefit besides the caucus format, which requires more commitment on the part of voters.

In addition to Kansas, Republican voters vote today in primary or caucus elections in Louisiana, Kentucky and Maine, while Democrats do as well in Kansas and Louisiana and Nebraska.

In primary today, Trump hopes to confirm its lead over other rivals, because of great moment 329 delegates, compared with 231 who came to the elections today its immediate follower, Cruz.
