The storm system that brought deadly tornadoes in Mississippi and Louisiana caused destruction along the east coast on Wednesday, destroying buildings and taking more lives.
A possible tornado hit Waverly, Virginia, killing three people, a 2-year-old Corinne Geller, a spokeswoman for the state police said in a news release.
Another man was found dead in Appomattox County, Virginia.
The news brought the death toll from two days of the storm to seven.
The city put a curfew in force at 7:30 pm ET to clear the roads for cleaning and first responders, state police said.
Some 209,000 customers were without power, officials said with utilities in several states and the District of Columbia.
A witness told CNN affiliate WAVY that the destruction of the small town of Waverly was "completely devastating."
"Cars were crumpled on the road. Cars are collected and thrown into the pit," Sharon Faison, a medical assistant who led the mobile home park where there were three deaths, told the station. "We just have to pray."
The other victims were a 50-year-old and a 26 year old who were in the same trailer as 2 years old. Their bodies were found 300 yards from where the trailer once seated, officials said.
WAVY Desmond Gardner said he was in his car with a family when the wind brought down power lines.
"It was like a big ball of fire," he said, adding that the remains storm headed straight for the car. The sedan suddenly left the land.
"The wind picked up the car and let us down," he said. "All I could do was hold on tight, I tell my uncle that she loved and gold."
Gardner said he and his uncle were good, but a good friend of his was among the dead.
