That quickly escalated.
mordant wit of Colbert did not sit well with Casey Affleck, who appeared on The Late Show Monday night to promote his new crime drama, Triple 9.
"Thanks for dressing," Colbert joked, referring to the wrinkled clothes Affleck. "I can not say whether this choice is, like, celebrity less thing to do or as celebrity to do. It's very informal."
"Thanks," Affleck said sheepishly. "You look great."
"Well, thank you. I'm not saying do not look good. I'm not saying all," Colbert began before cutting Affleck to call it rude. "I'm not being rude at all," Colbert insisted before mocking the actor was the image of "a Jesus corner of the street."
Tensions it subsided a little after the discussion turned to triple 9 - "It's a terrible image and is phenomenal in it," he said before Colbert Affleck replied with a twinkle in his eye: "Things are soon going so well."
"I do not understand why," Colbert said. "We should probably end up fighting at the end of this, as bare-knuckle boxing."
Fortunately for professional (but unfortunately for Internet) images, stars do not come to blows. In fact, actually they bind on how much help their children with science experiments. (Colbert could not complete Triple 9 because he had to help his son with his project.)
