Veteran producer Bob Ezrin recently wrote an extensive commentary on Kanye West for Bob Lefsetz newsletter, the Lefsetz Charter. Ezrin, who led culturally shocking albums like Pink Floyd The Wall, Kiss Destroyer, and Lou Reed Berlin, argued that Kanye is not worthy of equal critical acclaim.
"Sure, he made some good music for himself and others. But despite what aspirationally-cool media keeps saying about him, unlike other artists in his genre as Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie or MC Hammer for that matter, it is unlikely that we will also citing many of the songs from Kanye 20 years from now, "Ezrin wrote. "He did not open new avenues of public discourse as NWA, or introduce the world to a new art form as Grandmaster Flash, or even a meaningful and memorable way to address social issues through their music as Marshall, Macklemore and Kendrick."
Ezrin went on to say Kanye songs is "immature at best" and their production skills pale in comparison to the likes of Timbaland and Rick Rubin.
"Instead Kanye greatest achievements have been in the form of excessive behavior, tantrums and egotistical grandstanding distasteful," continued Ezrin. "What is a true artist in your life is to live out loud -. And pushing down the throats of the rest of us if we give a shit or not it's like flasher interrupting a critical match for running naked through field. it is that art ??? "
This afternoon, Kanye responded to Ezrin through a series of tweets. "Has anyone heard of Bob Ezrin ??? Kanye started. What the hell do you know about rap ... I'm tired of the elderly who have no connection to anything that tries to comment on the music!" , adding, "it's guys like you that companies do not invest in implementation and yE even if 'm idol of his children !!! rock and roll was stolen ... Rap was exploited ..."
Kanye also offended, and rightly so, to be compared with Macklemore. That is, even mom needs to know Macklemore Macklemore blows.
