Taking the plunge: Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson and Charlize Theron as best dressed directing dare to bare at the Oscars

Only one of them would take home the Academy Award for Best Actress.

But as Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and the eventual winner Brie Larson arrived at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, it seemed that the candidates had each came up with the same red carpet winning formula.

The hopeful trio took the decisive step in low-cut dresses at the party high profile in the Dolby Theatre on Sunday.

But it was the former winner Charlize Theron, who turned out to be the boldest - a red number was reduced almost to the navel.

Jennifer was one of the last stars to walk the red carpet, accompanied by the director David O. Russell joy, but certainly not disappointed.

The 25-year-old, was dressed as expected in Dior Haute Couture, but showed her sexy side in a series of black lace top corseted, who clung to her slim figure.

Cate was another star to pick up a dress embellished, as a meerschaum creation Armani Privé, which had a low-cut neckline and was adorned with flowers feathers. The 46-year-old also showed a new shorter hairstyle.
