The group that represents the last socially acceptable for drilling down remains debatable goal, but in the democratic debate tonight, Senator Bernie Sanders made it clear that the mentally ill remain fair targets.
Germán López writes in Vox,
The Zinger Sanders tied support for funding of mental health for the Republican field: "We are, if [I am] president-elect, will invest a lot of money on mental health," Sanders said. "And when these Republican debates are, you know why we need to invest in mental health."
No matter that 25% of the adult US population at any given time will have a mental illness. No matter which services are particularly inaccessible to Americans of color, many of which are accessed at half the rate of white Americans. No matter Sanders investment that promises much needed because half of all chronic mental conditions begin before 14 still delays treatment because of access barriers can mean years - even decades - to wait interventions.
That's not a fun situation. And it's not funny or light to simulated people who have these conditions, you can not get help for them, and not even worthy Smirk make it through an area of predictable insult games and jejunum is not worthy of my ability 9 year old. In fact, comparing the antics of the royal court of the Republican field to the experience of having a mental illness increases to something sober immature behavior and serious while reducing the severity of how we treat - and clearly, also speak - mental health in this country .
Donald Trump scoffed when a reporter last year people with disabilities, the reaction was strong, negative and fast. Trump was forced to comment on it and offer false and apparently weak defense that he did not know the reporter in question. Making fun of the physically disabled is seen, too low to be acceptable even from Donald Trump.
